Whilst Politicians Dawdle on Party Funding, Public Confidence Dwindles
Commenting on the Chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life’s (CSPL) Sir Christopher Kelly’s recent comments regarding party funding and lobbying, Director of Unlock Democracy Peter Facey said:
“History clearly shows that whilst politicians dawdle on the thorny issue of party funding, public confidence dwindles as more and more scandals come to light .
“Sir Christopher Kelly is absolutely correct in his analysis. Unlock Democracy have repeatedly warned successive governments of the dangers of dithering and inaction on this matter. It is only a matter of time before yet another scandal erupts.
“We also welcome Sir Christopher’s suggestion of a CSPL report to look into lobbying. However, any such report must not be used as a delaying tactic to further delay the government’s plans to introduce a statutory register of lobbyists.”
