Volunteer with Unlock Democracy
Research Volunteer
The UK’s leading campaign for democracy, rights and freedoms is searching for a volunteer to help with an exciting new research project. The research will be the launchpad for a national grassroots campaign we will run. This campaign will be for the introduction of a system of recall for MPs in the UK Parliament which would give people a right to remove their MP in between elections.
The report will assess the use of recall in different parts of the world and will evaluate the arguments for and against recall. As a research volunteer, you would assist with researching these topics under the supervision of the recall campaign team.
You must be enthusiastic and self-starting with a genuine commitment to the goals of the organisation and to recall. You should have experience of having undertaken high quality research, preferably to masters or degree level. You should be able to undertake literature reviews and accurately summarise large quantities of relevant information.
Volunteer roles are typically for 2 or more days per week for a period of 2 months, with the possibility for extension, although we are happy to discuss particular circumstances with potential volunteers.
To apply please send your CV (or a summary of your skills and experience), up to 500 words on why you think the UK needs a system of recall and a covering letter of no more than half a side of A4 explaining why you are interested in the role to Daniel Flanagan at daniel.flanagan@unlockdemocracy.org.uk.
If you have questions about this role, please contact Daniel Flanagan on 020 7278 4443. If you have questions about other volunteering positions at Unlock Democracy, please ask for Emily.
Closing date for applications: 24 May 2013
