Safeguard democracy

Protect our human rights

We must push back hard against any attempts to undermine our human rights, which are fundamental to our democracy.

The last government tried to rip up the Human Rights Act and violate international treaties we are party to by sending asylum seekers to Rwanda.

The current government must end the pattern of chipping away at our human rights and instead strengthen rights’ protections for everyone.

Introduce a written constitution

The lack of a written constitution in the UK is a major vulnerability in our democracy.

A written constitution sets out the limits of government power and regulates the relationship between the state and its citizens. It safeguards rights and freedoms.

We want to see a democratic and participatory process that produces a written constitution designed to serve and protect the people.

Restore the right to protest

The Government has not committed to reversing the anti-protest legislation introduced in the last Parliament. The police were awarded powers to limit any protest deemed ‘a nuisance’ or ‘noisy’.

The right to protest is a fundamental part of modern democracy, and history shows us that protests can inspire major societal change.

The Government must now restore our right to protest by repealing this legislation.
