Labour's attack ad targetting the Prime Minister

Labour faced backlash this month for their attack ad targetting the Prime Minister. The ad asked -

“Do you think adults convicted of sexually assaulting children should go to prison? Rishi Sunak doesn’t.”

Robust debate is important in our democracy. Political parties pointing out hypocrisy or broken promises from their opponents is part of that.

But sometimes that can go too far.

Many Labour politicians are clearly not happy about it either. It comes just a year after Boris Johnson’s attempt to link Sir Keir Starmer to failures to prosecute Jimmy Saville. That accusation deservedly received widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum.

We asked our supporters about Labour's attack ad targetting the Prime Minister. Over 3700 shared their opinions with us and it gave us some interesting insights.

Our supporters had mixed opinions on whether the ad was fair, but a large majority said the ad was not good for politics in the UK.
