No system is perfect, but a proportional electoral system takes account of the fact that every society is a congeries of diverse minorities and individuals, all of whom deserve an equal voice, and that government should not be party-political but should combine the most salient interests from across society in the service of all society. On the 30th of October the House of Commons considered an e-petition relating to proportional representation.  The overwhelming majority of speakers supported a change in the voting system. Here a summary of what happened.

The latest proposals for boundary changes have been published. Constituency boundaries are not a trivial concern, but hailing these changes as a solution to the unfairness in our political system is to overlook some of the most serious issues plaguing our politics.
