Kick big money out of politics
Far too many of our political parties are reliant on huge donations. This allows rich donors to hijack our politics at the expense of ordinary voters.
More than £20 million was donated to political parties in the first three months of 2026 alone, with the majority coming from a small number of mega-donors.
The Government is introducing a £100,000 cap on overseas donations, but billionaires at home will still be able to pour unlimited sums into our political parties.
Democracy should be decided by voters, not by those with the biggest wallets. A handful of wealthy individuals, wherever they live, should not be able to buy influence in our democracy.
We need a donations cap for all donors. It’s the only way to get big money out of our politics entirely.
The Labour Party election manifesto promised to “protect democracy by strengthening rules around donations.” Prime Minister Burnham should deliver on this promise by kicking big money out of politics entirely.
If you agree, please sign our petition for an annual donations cap.
