Our letter to the party leaders

Dear Leader,

The English local election results have demonstrated how incompatible our First Past the Post Voting System is with multi-party politics.

We’re seeing councillors being elected even though three-quarters of their electors voted against them. Many new Council Administrations elected yesterday will have been opposed by a vast majority of electors.

These chaotic results would be a disaster if repeated at a General Election.

All sides should be able to see that First Past the Post voting doesn’t work any more.

If we want to improve trust in our politics, then the system must change.

Will you commit your party to supporting the creation of an independent National Commission on Electoral Reform? The Commission would urgently review the electoral system and bring forward plans for change.
