Our letter on the Government’s mega-donations taskforce

Dear Florence Eshalomi MP,

Channel 4’s recent investigation into Reform UK’s finances shows why we urgently need stronger safeguards against the influence of mega-donors in our politics. But the issue of mega-donations goes far beyond just one party.

We therefore welcome the Government’s promise to establish a cross-government taskforce to tackle the issue.

We would like to know more about the taskforce, including: 

• Who will sit on the taskforce?

• What options will the taskforce consider for tackling the influence of mega-donors?

• When will the taskforce be established, and when is it expected to report?

• Will the Government commit to implementing its recommendations before the next general election?

We hope the taskforce will recommend meaningful action to get big money out of politics. A donation cap set at a reasonable level would be the most effective way to achieve this.
