During my working career I have worked for both public and private industries. The National Health service in the capacity of a project co-ordinator in a capital team. Project manager for a French Bank in the City, and latterly for Cornwall Council as a Planning Officer.
For my private time I volunteered in my community of Shoreditch as a member of the Hoxton Trust Board, introducing free legal debt advice for households. Then a member and Chair for a year of the Board for the New Deal in Shoreditch, finally as chair of a Cornish Environmental / Historic Trust, The Tamar Protection Society in my home County of Cornwall.
I have retired to Brittany in France and now along with a group of likeminded British people fight for the protection of British Citizens abroad. The upholding of their civil and democratic rights which have been sadly neglected by successive H.M. Governments, in order to bring UK Citizens on par with their fellow European citizens working and living within the UK. Campaigning for the provision of a proper and reliable overseas voting system, employment protection whilst working in Europe, freedom of movement to work and study in Europe. Legal assistance and reliable parliamentary support which at present does not exist for UK citizens abroad.
The UK is sadly lagging behind its European counterparts and did even when within the European Union failed to provide adequate support for their citizens who travel, work and study, in Europe and around the world, in varying capacities. This is a fundamental flaw in the UK's democratic responsibilities towards its citizens over many years and must now be addressed for the future. We can no longer afford this island mentality, in order to survive as a nation, we must be part of a bigger world picture, and treat our citizens with care and respect, as other nations do.
