Catherine has a commitment to democracy and a desire to empower citizens. Catherine served in the European Parliament for nearly 11 years representing the South East of England. As an MEP, she worked to promote transparency and citizen participation in the European Parliament. In addition to her political experience, she has a strong background in community engagement and volunteer work. Catherine served on various councils and was involved in a variety of local, national and international charities both as a worker and as a trustee. (CAB, local Wildlife Trust, NFWI, Victim Support, IFAW, Liberal Democrats, County and District councillor) This range of experiences has shown her the importance of effective governance.

Unlock Democracy's mission to promote democratic change reflects Catherine’s belief that we need reform, urgently. Unlock Democracy plays a crucial role in campaigning for this and she is keen to do what she can to help achieve this goal. Being part of the Council has enabled her to do this.

Catherine wants to help Unlock Democracy to focus on campaigning for

  • Proportional Representation (PR) for both Westminster and local government (in England)

  • House of Lords Reform

  • Written Constitution for the United Kingdom

First elected onto the Council in 2020 she has been part of its progress and work towards these goals. UD needs to increase its membership and take this to the government and she is keen to help increase the volume of our campaigning at this time of change.
