What is a National Commission on Electoral Reform?
We welcome the Prime Minister's announcement of a National Commission on Electoral Reform to look into options for changing our voting system.
The Commission should bring together experts and citizens to examine the problems with our current voting system and recommend a system fit for the future.
We look forward to hearing more about what the Commission will cover, who will be involved and when it is expected to report. We also hope to contribute to its work.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Fair Elections, for which we are the joint secretariat, has published a proposed Terms of Reference for a National Commission on Electoral Reform. This was developed in consultation with leading constitutional experts.
You can read those Terms of Reference below.
